To the one who loved the Moon

You gave your heart to the moon
that shone but cast no light
whose glow was tainted by the darkness
he carried inside
every laugh you gave
he pulled back into the shadow
every spark of joy
he snuffed with his misery
yet, still you loved him
foolish, and pure
believing he could be the sun
but darling you are the sun
and no moon
no matter how bright
can ever hold your light
the lies he whispered the coldness he gave
they were never yours to carry
you were never meant
to lose yourself in his emptiness
let your tears fall
but know this
they water the garden of your soul
and soon
from that pain
you will bloom
you are not broken
though it may feel like it now
you are a wildflower
waiting to rise with the dawn.
